Third member resigns from Memorial commission

A third member of the newly appointed Citizens Commission on Ownership and Governance of Memorial Health System has resigned.

John Burrington, a retired physician and member of the El Paso County Board of Health, resigned over the weekend for personal reasons, commission Chairman Stephen Hyde said Tuesday.

“I was disappointed to lose him,” Hyde said.

Burrington said Tuesday evening that he resigned because of a "family medical problem."

Burrington’s resignation follows those of Tim Leigh, a commercial real estate broker and mayoral candidate, and B.J. Scott, president and CEO of Peak Vista Community Health Centers, both of whom resigned over conflict-of-interest concerns.

When the City Council appointed replacements for Leigh and Scott last month, Murray Weiner was named as an alternate to the commission, which is responsible for leading a community conversation about health care and the future of the city-owned health system.
