A wildfire jumped into southern El Paso County from Pueblo County on Thursday afternoon, spewing tall flames into the air and burning between 500 and 1,500 acres.

The blaze, near Boone Road and Myers Road, was first reported shortly after 3 p.m.

Crews reported the blaze was 60 percent contained by 10 p.m., said Lt. Lari Sevene, El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

El Paso County had crews on the scene, as well as the Hanover Fire Department.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
