Fire blazing north of Deckers

THE GAZETTE

Fire crews were battling a 100-plus acre fire in rugged terrain north of Deckers on Sunday.

A helicopter, an air tanker, and four single-engine planes attacked the Oxyoke Fire, about 25 miles north of Woodland Park. Only a handful of homes were evacuated in what is mostly a day-use and recreational area, but the rugged terrain made firefighting difficult.

Firefighting efforts were called off overnight, but about 225 firefighters were expected to work on the fire today.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
