Woman sought on suspicion of shooting man in face

A 25-year-old woman is being sought on suspicion of shooting a man in the face early Monday after an apparent dispute, Colorado Springs police said.

Dillion Mohrbutter, 22, of Colorado Springs was shot with a shotgun at a house in the 1500 block of Diana Lane about 5 a.m. His injuries did not appear life-threatening, police said.

Police are searching for Margo Eck, 25, on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the central Colorado Springs shooting, which initially was called in as a car thief being wounded by the owner after catching him in the act. Police did not say if Eck lived at the home where the shooting happened.

Police responded to a call that a man had been shot during an attempted car theft and that he was being detained by the car's owners near Palmer Park Boulevard and Circle Drive, Sgt. Tim Stankey said.

It was not immediately clear whether police believe the dispute between Mohrbutter and Eck was over an attempted car theft.

A neighbor who called 911 after the shooting said he had called police about 4 a.m. to complain about noise from the house. After officers showed up, the residents turned down the music, the neighbor said.

An hour later, Bobby Spotts, who lives on Happiness Drive, said a man with a gunshot wound who appeared to be in his 20s came to his home.

"It was very disturbing. The guy's face, half his face was missing," he said.

Spotts said the man wouldn't cooperate with authorities or say who shot him.

Spotts and other neighbors said the house is often busy at night, with many cars coming and going. The residents have lived in the rental for about two months, they said.
