Falcon to break ground on new library

Groundbreaking for High Prairie Branch Library is Thursday for the library expected to open next summer.
The 6,000-square-foot library, at U.S. Highway 24 and Meridian Road, will have a collection of about 14,000 items focusing on popular materials and children’s items.
The Pikes Peak Library District branch will serve residents of Black Forest, Calhan, Peyton, Rush, Ellicott, Yoder and other northeast El Paso County communities. The region is currently served by a the district’s mobile library.
The new facility will have a meeting room and will incorporate “green” features in the construction and operation.
Cost of the project is estimated at $3.3 million. Farmers State Bank donated the land to the library district.
The public is invited to the 11:30 a.m. groundbreaking. Food items for Care & Share Food Bank will be collected.
Some students from Woodmen Hills Elementary will be recognized for their dedication to reading. Over the fall break, students tallied the minutes spent reading, with top readers from each classroom and the overall winner to be honored at the ceremony.
