Police investigate report of kidnapping
What had been reported as an abduction from a department store parking lot remains under investigation to determine what happened, Colorado Springs police said Saturday.
A 21-year-old woman, whose name was not released, told police she was abducted outside her car in a Kohl’s department store on Powers Boulevard Friday night, fought off her attacker and escaped.
“An officer worked on it all day, and we have not conclusively determined who or what happened. We are trying to get it sorted out,” said Lt. Kirk Wilson at the Stetson Hills substation. The investigating officer is seeking surveillance tapes from Kohl’s and nearby businesses but will not be on duty again until Wednesday, Wilson said.
The woman said she was abducted about 8 p.m. by a man who pulled up beside her car in a black SUV and took her to a dirt parking lot about a quarter-mile south of Constitution Avenue and Marksheffel Road.
It was there, she told police, that she escaped by kicking and hitting the kidnapper. She said the man searched for her, but she remained hidden until he left. She suffered minor cuts and bruises.
