Police: Wrong-way driver on Powers slams into building

The Gazette

A car traveling the wrong way on Powers Boulevard careened off the roadway and into a building early Saturday.

After 2:30 a.m. Colorado Springs police started getting calls about the wrong-way driver, who was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Powers near Dublin Boulevard.

As police rushed to intercept the car, more calls came to 9-1-1, this time saying the car had veered off Powers and into an office building near 6100 Tutt Blvd, which runs parallel to Powers.

“When officers arrived on scene the involved vehicle was located inside of the building and contained a lone male sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle,” police said in a news release.

The man, whose name had not been release, was treated for minor injuries.

Police said the incident had a simple cause.

“He was intoxicated,” said Sgt. Chuck Potter.
