City issues snow a dare after USOC roof fix
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Work on the roof of the new U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters is finished.
“Let it snow!” city spokeswoman Sue Skiffington-Blumberg said in an e-mail.
After a snowfall last week, blocks of snow and ice fell off the roof of the building at 27 S. Tejon St., damaging four vehicles and forcing the city to close sidewalks and streets.
The general contractor and the architect of the six-story building immediately started looking for a remedy. The project, which started Friday, didn’t cost the city money.
“The crews essentially added more Sno-Guard flanges to the sloped metal roof,” city spokesman John Leavitt said.
“The roof already had some, but they proved to be not enough to handle the snowfall,” he said. “The architect and contractors determined more flanges would fix the problem.”
