Petition group seeks signatures
A community group trying to recall two members of the Falcon School District 49 school board will make a final push this weekend to gather signatures.
Monday is the deadline for the group to turn in the petitions, and they hope to gather more than the required 3,400 signatures for each candidate.
Group members will canvas the Claremont Ranch, Cimarron Hills and Constitution Hills areas Friday evening, and will also have a table set up by the fireworks tents at the corner of Palmer Park and Powers boulevards today and Saturday.
Petitions will also be available to sign at the annual neighborhood bike parade from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday on Duffield Drive in Cimarron Hills.
The group wants to recall Dave Martin and Kent Clawson, as well as field candidates to run in November against three other board members, should they decide to run again.
Forensic student receives award
Danielle Camous of St. Mary's High School has been named the 2009 National Forensic League National Student of the Year.
The league has 92,000 active members and singles out one each year to recognize for best demonstrating the tenets of its code of honor: integrity, humility, respect, leadership and service.
To be eligible for the award, the student must win the competition at the district level.
Six nominees are then selected as finalists and participate in interviews.
