D-11 board approves development of contract with charter school
The Colorado Springs District 11 board on voted Wednesday to gave Superintendent Nicholas Gledich permission to develop a contract with a new charter school for gifted and twice-exceptional students.
The Academy for Advanced and Creative Learning, a K-through-8 school, would open in the fall of 2010.
The school board voted 5-2 to move forward with negotiations.
Where the school would be housed hasn’t been determined.
Under the resolution, the district has 90 days to enter into a contract with the academy. The district’s cost would be determined by the number of enrollees at the charter school, which hasn’t been finalized, district spokeswoman Elaine Naleski said.
If a contract is signed, the academy would be open for four years before going back to the board for a contract renewal.
