Car seat check at school open house
Sidewalk’s End Montessori School is hosting a free car seat safety check in conjunction with an open house 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the school.
The new preschool, at 3215 Woodland Hills Drive, serves children ages 3 to 6 in full-day and half-day programs.
The directors, Lynne Casebeer and Grace Blea-Nuñez,  have been involved in the Colorado Springs District 11 public Montessori program. Casebeer worked with parents to help start the program. Blea-Nuñez marketed it and was a member of the school’s accountability committee. For more information, visit sidewalksendmontessori.com.

Hearing set for accountability act
The Colorado State Board of Education will hold a hearing 2 p.m. Wednesday  on proposed rules for the Educational Accountability Act. The rules will outline the state’s role in intervening in districts when accreditation scores are poor for five years. The act also gives greater autonomy to high-performing districts and more intervention and support to districts in need.
The meeting will be in the board room, 201 E. Colfax, Denver.

Goff receives foreign language award
Jane Goff, a member of the Colorado State Board of Education, has received the Friends of Foreign Languages award for her contributions to teaching and learning of world languages.
The award was presented recently by the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers.
Goff serves as the board’s liaison to the State World Language Advisory Council. She taught Spanish and French from 1972 until 2003, when she was appointed coordinator of world languages and international student exchange for Jefferson County Public Schools.  

Vote to help a school get free supplies
Thirteen local schools are vying for $2,000 worth of supplies in Remington College’s Adopt Our School Program.
From March 3 to March 31, the public can vote online for the school of their choice at adoptourschool.com.
Among the schools vying for the award: Cheyenne Mountain Charter, Cheyenne Mountain High School, Giberson Elementary, Harrison High School, Lewis-Palmer middle and high schools, Mark Twain Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Palmer’s high school and night school, Russell Middle School, Soaring Eagles and Wildflower elementaries.
The event is among the college’s charity efforts to mark its 25th anniversary celebration this year.
