Drug bust nets suspect in attempted murder

A Monday drug bust, initially for two ounces of marijuana, led to the seizure of 11 pounds of marijuana, 27 grams of mushrooms and the arrest of a man accused of attempted murder.

According to Colorado Springs police, Joseph Upshaw, 21, was arrested Monday about 2:30 p.m. when he allegedly tried to sell two ounces of marijuana to an undercover police officer at a gas station near North Nevada Avenue and North Weber Street.

When police went to search Upshaw’s apartment at 1408 N. Weber St., officers found Justin McDowell, 22, sleeping on the couch. McDowell was wanted for attempted first-degree murder. Inside McDowell’s room, officers found the suspected marijuana and mushrooms and $600.

Upshaw was arrested on suspicion of distributing marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon. McDowell was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder as well as resisting arrest.
