Arrest made in 2-year Teller sex assault investigation

A 59-year-old woman was arrested Thursday, less than a week after her husband committed suicide in a Teller County subdivision amid allegations of sexual assault.

Karen Clark was booked into the Teller County jail on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, said Sheriff Mike Ensminger. She is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

She also is suspected of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Ensminger did not release details of the allegations.

The arrest comes a little more than a week after deputies searched a home in the Wilson Lake subdivision, west of Florissant, in connection with a two-year investigation.

“We did uncover a substantial amount of evidence,” in the search, much of which was provided by the victim of the alleged assault, Ensminger said.

On Saturday, Karen Clark’s husband, Bruce Clark, 62, shot himself in the head near the lake inside the subdivision, said Teller County Coroner Al Born.

A friend of Bruce Clark’s made the emergency call to authorities. Moments earlier, he had been seen driving a tractor near the lake, according to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.

Ensminger declined to say whether the suicide was related to the investigation.

Bruce Clark, though, was under investigation for sexual assault when he killed himself, Born said.
