THE GAZETTE

Colorado Springs police made 56 drunken driving arrests over the New Year’s weekend, topping last year’s total of 34.

The 56 DUI arrests between 6 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Wednesday were part of the state’s “Heat Is On” campaign, which put extra law enforcement officers on the streets to catch intoxicated drivers.

Last year, 34 arrests were made between Dec. 29 and Jan. 2.

Statewide, officers with the Colorado State Patrol and other county and city law enforcement agencies arrested 339 DUI drivers this year, compared with 449 last year.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
