Gazette Summer Internship Program: 2010 The Gazette is Colorado Springs' daily newspaper. We have a newsroom of around 90 people. We offer both paid and for-credit summer internships and for-credit-only internships during the rest of the year.
We plan to hire four reporters, a designer and a copy editor as paid summer interns.
Our paid Sports intern is procured through either AWSM or APSE/SJI.

In addition to a summer photo internship our photo department offers a fall photo internship. The deadline for portfolios for the summer photo internship is January 10 and the deadline for fall is June 10. Address photo internship queries to Mark Reis at mark.reis@gazette.com

WHO IS ELIGIBLE
Preferred candidates are college journalism students completing their sophomore or junior year. We will consider graduating seniors, as well.
Applicants must have previous newsroom experience.
Self-reliance and computer literacy are required. Video and audio production skills are a plus.
Reporting interns must have access to a reliable car.

EXPECTATIONS
Reporting interns may write for Metro, Features, Business or Entertainment sections, depending on our needs and their interests and skills. They do general assignment stories and an occasional project.
Copy-editing and design interns can expect evening work.

DETAILS
Internships last 10 weeks, usually between June and August. Exact dates are arranged according to the needs of the interns and the editors.
Internships are 40 hours per week, plus overtime when necessary.
Our paid interns earn $10/hour plus business expenses. We do not pay living expenses.
Our for-credit interns must arrange for school credit with their counselors.

APPLICATION
Applicants should send a resume, no more than six examples of their best work and a cover letter that includes availability and qualifications.
Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 31.
Those selected as finalists will be contacted no later than Jan. 31.
