Olympic viewing party planned for July 27 in downtown Springs

Greek actress Ino Menegaki lights the Olympic torch Thursday in Athens, starting a 70-day, 8,000-mile journey to London for the Summer Games. An Olympic cauldron will be lit by retired figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and her husband, Bret Hedican, a former hockey player, during a July 27 festival in Colorado Springs for the opening ceremony.

17 from Springs qualified for Olympics, 15 others in London mix

Colorado-Colorado Springs graduate Matt Emmons has qualified for the London Games this summer in rifle. It's the third Olympics for Emmons, who won a gold medal in 2004 and a silver in 2008, then recently beat thyroid cancer. In all, 17 Springs-area athletes have punched tickets to London, and 15 others are still in contention for Olympic berths.

Russia says it foiled Olympic terror plot
