THE GAZETTE

Parker shines

Air Force junior forward/center Grant Parker calls Utah's Huntsman Center "a great shooting gym." He certainly seemed comfortable firing the ball Saturday.

In Air Force's 74-59 loss, Parker scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. He made a trio of 3s in the game's first 7 minutes, 19 seconds as the Falcons went up 12-6.

Parker also played tough defense against 7-foot-2, 265-pound Luke Nevill before fouling out despite giving up 7 inches and 50 pounds. Coach Jeff Reynolds said Parker's performance was the "best of his career."

Another new lineup

Freshman guard Shawn Hempsey made his first start, replacing freshman Brandon Provost in the lineup. It gave the Falcons their fourth different starting lineup this season. In the previous six seasons, Air Force used no more than two starting lineups.

Youngsters not scoring

Four freshmen played 43 minutes but scored no points. Air Force's three seniors (Anwar Johnson, Andrew Henke and Matt Holland) and Parker combined for 57 of the 59 points. Sophomore Evan Washington had the other two points on free throws.

Etc.

Air Force is 0-4 in Mountain West Conference games when leading at halftime. ... The Falcons had more turnovers (11) than assists (10) for the fourth straight game.
