Air Force's Kyle Halderman was taken down by the Utah defense after a catch last month. Injuries have limited the junior to just five games this season.

Halderman out again; this time it's his knee

Air Force’s offense will be without an important weapon in this weekend’s season finale at BYU.

Junior slot receiver Kyle Halderman suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s 45-17 victory over UNLV and will miss “at least four weeks,” according to coach Troy Calhoun.

“We’re going to see exactly what it is here in the next few days,” Calhoun said. “I think it’s just a (posterior cruciate ligament). But right now it’s just a little too early to tell.”

Halderman, Air Force’s top big-play threat in 2008, missed the Falcons’ first six games after breaking his collarbone in the preseason. But he gave the offense a boost when he returned. In the Oct. 31 victory over Colorado State, he scored two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving), and during the last three weeks the Air Force offense finally seemed to be healthy and humming.

With Halderman out, Calhoun said he’ll have to decide this week who will back up starting slot receiver Jonathan Warzeka. Candidates include sophomore Jon Escamilla, who went eight yards with his first career carry against UNLV; freshman tailback Cody Getz, who played slot receiver earlier this season; and perhaps junior tailback Savier Stephens.

Other injury news

Freshman outside linebacker Alex Means also will miss the BYU game, and he could be done for the year. Means has been out with a mid-foot sprain, and Calhoun said he wants to be cautious with when Means returns so he doesn’t risk injuring it further.

Calhoun said quarterback Connor Dietz will not be available for BYU.
