June 24: Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony says he has been offered a three-year, $65 million extension from the Nuggets
July 10: Anthony marries longtime girlfriend La La Vasquaez. New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul makes a toast at Anthony’s wedding and predicts he, Anthony and New York Knicks center Amare Stoudemire will “form our own Big 3.”
July 14: Nuggets sign free agent forward Al Harrington.
Aug. 11: The Nets, in a four-team deal with the Hornets, Indiana Pacers and Houston Rockets, acquire Troy Murphy in an attempt to give them a player to offer other teams in a future trade.
August 13: Anthony dismisses questions at a basketball clinic about his future and a rumor he and Paul may one day team up.
Aug. 15: Anthony states he is undecided on the contract extension while at his annual basketball camp at ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch.
Aug. 28: Nuggets hire Masai Ujiri as executive vice president. Ujiri tells The Associated Press that keeping Anthony in Denver is his top priority.
Sept. 9: Anthony says New York and Chicago are his preferred destinations.
Sept. 15: Nuggets coach George Karl says, “My job, any time I talk to Melo or talk to his people, is to try to convince him that we won 53 games last year and we're very capable of being a lot better than we were last year.”
Sept. 20: Nuggets announce they are willing to listen to offers for Anthony.
Sept. 25: Nuggets are close to a trade that would send Anthony to New Jersey. The Charlotte Bobcats, Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors are also involved.
Sept. 27: Anthony addresses trade rumors on the Nuggets’ media day saying “I’m here man, I’m here today. Whatever the future holds, it holds. Like Masai (Ujuri) said, I'm not going to discuss what me and him talked about. It was a good conversation – actually, it was a great conversation – practice starts tomorrow and we go from there.”
Sept 28: Anthony attends Nuggets first team practice of training camp.
Sept: 28: The trade that would send Anthony to the Nets is reported “dead” by an Associated Press source.
Oct. 19: A source tells TNT’s David Aldridge that there is no truth to an ESPN.com report stating the Knicks have made “significant” progress in their attempts to trade for Anthony.
Oct. 26: Anthony says “My feelings are still the same about this team. This is my team. Despite all the rumors and talk that's been going on this offseason, at the end of the day, I’m suiting up tomorrow night against the Utah Jazz in a Denver Nuggets’ uniform,” during an interview with NBATV.
Oct. 29: Anthony states that his comments about the situation were misinterpreted by fans and the media.
Nov. 19: Vazquez says “Wherever (Anthony is) going to feel comfortable is where I want him to be. If that's here in Denver, then we are happy to stay here in Denver.”
Dec. 12: Anthony states again that the contract extension is the most important to him following a four-point loss to the Knicks. Anthony then tells ESPN.com that he would only sign an extension if he was traded to the Knicks.
Jan 5: Dallas owner Mark Cuban told a radio station that he would be interested in acquiring Anthony even if he didn't sign an extension with the Mavericks.
Jan. 8: Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups says he is ignoring speculations that he will be traded along with Anthony. He says, “My grandma taught me that a long, long time ago. I can't control it, I control (basketball) the best I can. I kind of worry about that. (The speculation) really has no bearing on what I do out here.”
Jan. 9: Aldridge says a three-team trade, involving as many as 15 players, is close to being done between the Nuggets, Nets and Detroit Pistons. The trade seems to hinge on Anthony’s willingness to sign and extension before the deal can be made.
Jan. 15: Anthony says winning a title is the most important thing to him. He says “I’m going into my ninth season. I have no time to waste right now. I want to see the light at the end of the tunnel in my future. That light is a championship.”
Jan 16: Aldridge says the Nuggets have granted the Nets permission to talk to Anthony about signing an extension and playing for them.
Jan. 19: Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorove says the Nets will no longer pursue Anthony. He says “It has taken too long. It has been played out in public. And I'm certain it has taken a toll on the players. And I believe it has cost us several games,” during a news conference.
Feb 8: Kicks owner James Dolan gets involved in the contract negotiations and chooses to talk with Anthony’s camp directly.
Feb 9: Lakers coach Phil Jackson chuckled at rumors that the two-time defending champions would trade Andrew Bynam and Ron Artest to the Nuggets for Anthony and Harrington. The Lakers front office denied the report.
Feb. 16: The Nuggets and Nets resume trade talks following reports surfacing that Prokhorov has changed his mind. The trade would include Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Ben Uzoh, Troy Murphy and four first-round picks.
Feb. 18: Anthony denys a meeting with Prokhorov.
Feb 19: Aldridge reports that Anthony met with the Nets owner during All-Star weekend.
Feb 21: Anthony is excused from practice to for the taping of Conan O’Brien’s show while reports surface that sources close to the Net’s “remain confident” the team can acquire Anthony.
Feb 21: The Denver Post reports that Anthony has been traded to the Knicks in a deal that will send Wilson Chandle, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov and a 2014 first-round draft pick to the Nuggets. Denver will also receive additional picks and cash. The Knicks will get Anthony, Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman in the trade.
