Colorado closes spring football practices to public
BOULDER - At the request of the coaching staff, the University of Colorado has closed the remainder of its spring practices for several reasons, athletic director Mike Bohn and coach Dan Hawkins jointly announced Thursday.
The combination of far too much information surfacing on the Internet, despite repeated requests of those in attendance not to communicate via cell phone technologies, and distractions they have caused led to the decision.
Hawkins said the scrimmage set for this Saturday (April 11, 10 a.m.) is open, with next Friday's (April 17, 4 p.m.) to be determined provided what happened last year doesn't occur. That was when video footage taken by several cell phones showed up on the Internet. Hawkins said if that occurred after this Saturday's scrimmage, the session on the 17th would be closed.
Colorado policies are now more in-line with most of their Big 12 Conference counterparts, and its own fall policies, where after the first two weeks of August drills, all weekday practices are closed to the public, including Thursday sessions that are also closed to the media.
