Area college basketball: UCCS, CC women lose in home tourneys

The Colorado-Colorado Springs women's basketball team shot just 28.6 percent from the field in a 52-43 loss to Missouri Western in the final game of the Hyatt Place Thanksgiving Classic at the Lions’ Den.

Ashley Miller had 11 points for UCCS (3-3), which also committed 23 turnovers.

“They scored 52 points in our gym — 52 points,” coach Stephen Kirkham said. “I’ve been coaching a long time, and that’s probably the first time I’ve lost to a team that scored 52 points.”

WOMEN

• Host Colorado College lost its Thanksgiving Classic opener 76-73 in overtime to Whitworth at Reid Gymnasium. Freshman Collier Clegg had a game-high 25 points for the Tigers (2-1).

• Host Colorado edged Harvard 67-65 to win the Omni Hotels Classic. Sierra grad Chucky Jeffery had 14 points for the Buffs (4-1).

MEN
• Brady Ohlsen scored a career-high 28 points to lead Colorado College over Crown College 89-79 at the Nebraska Wesleyan Classic. CC improved to 3-1 for the first time since 1996-97.

• Ben Feilmeier scored 16 points to lead five Mountain Lions in double figures, but Colorado-Colorado Springs remained winless with a 113-83 loss to Central Washington at the Northwest Nazarene Classic in Nampa, Idaho. UCCS (0-4) fell into an early 19-4 hole and never recovered.
