Brannigan won’t return to Tigers

Colorado College right wing James Brannigan confirmed Wednesday that he has parted ways with the program.

Reached by phone at his home in Brooklyn, N.Y., Brannigan said he plans to pursue an East Coast Hockey League contract this fall but has not secured an agent.

Brannigan, 22, said his departure was not prompted by academic troubles. Brannigan said he has completed course work through his junior year but does not plan to finish his history degree at CC.

“It was hockey-based,” he said. “It just wasn’t working out as planned.”

Brannigan, who appeared in 30 games and had four assists, met with coach Scott Owens last month and said he left on good terms.

The Tigers will not lose any right wings to graduation and will add recruits Nick Dineen and Steve Schultz this fall.

Owens could not be reached for comment.
