Broncos look to quickly regroup

ENGLEWOOD – Maybe it’s best the Denver Broncos play again right away. They seem to think so.

The Broncos are coming off an ugly loss Sunday. They were beat 32-3 on their home field by San Diego. Running back Knowshon Moreno and receiver Brandon Marshall had words on the sideline, and Moreno shoved Marshall. The Broncos have lost four games in a row and don’t even have a share of first place in the AFC West anymore.

Denver has very little time to reflect on any of that, which could be good. The Broncos play the third game in a Thanksgiving tripleheader Thursday, against the New York Giants.

“I’m done feeling the loss, I’m sick of it,” quarterback Kyle Orton said. “And I know everyone else is. It’s been a long time since we’ve won, so let’s get back on the field and win a game. That’s all we’re talking about from here on out, is winning.”

The Broncos are also hoping to get some players back for Thursday’s game. Safety Brian Dawkins (neck), right tackle Ryan Harris (toe) and running back LaMont Jordan (back) would not have been able to practice had the Broncos practiced Monday, the team announced. Orton, coming off an ankle injury, would have been able to practice in full.

The Broncos need all the reinforcements they can get. Defensive end Vonnie Holliday said after Sunday’s loss that he was worried about the team’s lack of composure during the loss. He talked about a couple of personal-foul penalties after the Chargers baited them with trash talk. He said the Broncos are a young team, but they have to be mature, and they have to prepare better.

“This is not who we are,” Holliday said. “We’re a blue-collar team. We’re not filled with 10, 12 Pro Bowl guys, that’s not who we are. The first six games of the season, we won games together, guys going out putting it on the line. It wasn’t always pretty, and it’s not going to be pretty. We have to find a way to claw back, get back in the game.”
