AFA's Calhoun promotes Wallerstedt
Coach will replace DeRuyter as defensive coordinator
Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun has promoted Matt Wallerstedt to defensive coordinator and associate head coach in the wake of losing former coordinator and associate head coach Tim DeRuyter to Texas A&M.
Wallerstedt, who will be entering his third season at the academy, will continue to be in charge of the Falcons’ inside linebackers. The 43-year-old Wallerstedt was the Falcons’ assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator last season.
In addition, co-defensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator/secondary coach Charlton Warren has added assistant head coach to his title.
Calhoun has two offseason hires to make to replace the openings on his staff left by DeRuyter and offensive assistant Patrick Covington, who took a job at Coastal Carolina.
