CC moves up to No. 5 in both hockey polls

Colorado College’s sweep of Robert Morris moved it up to No. 5 in both major college hockey polls announced on Monday. For the eighth week in a row, 2009 national runner-up Miami was No. 1 in both the USA Hockey/USA Today and U.S. College Hockey Online/CBS Sports-College polls.

“I think it’s a sign of consistent play and stringing together some wins (five),” coach Scott Owens said. “It’s also a product of our schedule so we can’t get too excited. Our league and our schedule are humbling. It is nice to be recognized nationally.”

Then-No. 3 Denver’s home sweep of then-No. 2 North Dakota last weekend moved the Pioneers up to No. 2 in both polls this week. UMass-Lowell shifted up to No. 3 from No. 4 and the Sioux dropped to No. 4.

CC (9-2-1, 6-1-1), Denver (8-3-1, 6-1-1) and Minnesota-Duluth (No. 13 USA Hockey, No. 14 USCHO) are tied for first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Bulldogs are 9-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in league.
