Air Force's Tim Kirby, left, clears RIT's Adam Hartley on Friday in front of goalie Stephen Caple at Rochester, N.Y.

RIT ends Air Force's 7-game unbeaten streak in hockey

Air Force gave up a season-high 33 shots and had a 34-25 deficit in faceoffs.

The Rochester Institute of Technology won Friday night’s hockey game, too, beating Air Force 3-1 to end the Falcons’ seven-game unbeaten streak.

“Did we play horribly? No. We played better than we did last week. But that ain’t good enough,’’ Air Force coach Frank Serratore said after his team fell to 5-3-2 and 4-1-1 in Atlantic Hockey.

“We didn’t win the one-on-one battles. The better team, the hungrier team, won the game.’’

Bryan Potts scored twice and goalie Shane Madalora made 25 saves to lead the Tigers, who never trailed. Potts scored in each of the first two periods and Taylor McReynolds added an empty-netter after Air Force closed to 2-1 with 7:31 left in the game.

“We didn’t play with any teeth,’’ Serratore said. “We didn’t generate any shots.’’

Tim Kirby scored for the Falcons on a 5-on-3 power play, assisted by Pine Creek’s Kyle De Laurell.

Just over a minute later, Casey Kleisinger hit the post, but Air Force didn’t mount anything serious after that.

Stephen Caple continued his solid play in goal while starter Jason Torf remains injured, finished with a career-high 30 saves.

The Falcons play at Mercyhurst tonight.
