Air Force notes: Reynolds gets two technicals, first ejection
FORT COLLINS – Air Force coach Jeff Reynolds often works officials from the Falcons’ bench, but he rarely draws technical fouls and had not gotten ejected – until Saturday.
Reynolds picked up two technical fouls in the second half of Air Force’s loss at Colorado State, drawing his first ejection as Falcons coach.
“I really can’t make any comments about that,” Reynolds said, fearing further reprimand from the league.
Reynolds grew visibly frustrated at some of the calls against his team, or those not called against Colorado State, although Air Force was called for only one more foul in the game than the Rams. Reynolds’ second technical came with 7:11 remaining, after there was a non-call on what could have been a charge against Colorado State.
“I’ll just say this, I was not unprofessional, I didn’t use any cuss words,” Reynolds said.
Rebounding issues
The Falcons have been pretty solid this season in not allowing opponents to dominate them on the offensive glass, but gave up way too many second-chance points against the Rams. Pierce Hornung had nine offensive rebounds. On one play, in the middle of three Air Force defenders, he tipped in a rebound for one of his eight baskets.
“We need to box out better,” forward Mike Fitzgerald said. “When a player like Hornung is getting so many offensive rebounds, we need to learn, including myself, to face guard him and not even let him touch the ball.”
Kammerer out
Forward Chase Kammerer, who had seen increased minutes in recent games as a backup to center Taylor Broekhuis, sprained his left ankle in practice this week and didn’t make the trip to Fort Collins. Kammerer should be available against Boise State next Saturday.
