Alternate gold jerseys debut Saturday night

The new gold alternate jersey will replace the current gold jersey with Tigers spelled out diagonally across the front and with pinstriped shoulders.

Associate athletic director Greg Capell said it was time for a new look.

Coach Scott Owens said the jerseys are scheduled to be worn next Saturday too.

Fans can skate with the Tigers Sunday

The annual “Skate With The Tigers” event will be held from 12:15-1:45 p.m. Sunday at Honnen Ice Arena on the CC campus. Admission is free.

Fans can meet the entire team, get autographs, take pictures, and skate.

Usual powers remain atop WCHA

While there appears to be parity at the national level with five relative newcomers in the top 15 in both major polls, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings look much the same as years past.

The top teams entering the weekend are Colorado College, North Dakota, and Denver followed by Minnesota-Duluth, Wisconsin, St. Cloud State and Minnesota. Alaska-Anchorage, Michigan Tech and Minnesota State-Mankato bring up the rear.

“The league is strong again this year,” Owens said.

Brother Act

In Owens’ 11 years as coach, he has signed five sets of brothers. Most recently, Jaden Schwartz signed for 2010, joining current freshman Rylan Schwartz.

Other past sets include Darren and William Clark; Joe and Mark Cullen; Ian and Toby Petersen; Colin, Mike and Mark Stuart; and Bill and Lee Sweatt.

The relationships begun during one boy’s recruitment often carries over.

“The families know what we’re about,” Owens said. “They know we take care of the kids.”
