CC hockey: Freshmen contributing in big ways

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

THE GAZETTE

The Colorado College hockey team is getting plenty of contributions from its freshman class.

A pair of goals by right wing William Rapuzzi in Friday’s 5-0 win over Alaska-Anchorage gave the freshman the third-most goals on the team and most among his fellow classmates.

Center Rylan Schwartz headed into Saturday’s contest second on the team in points with 13, trailing only senior Bill Sweatt. Schwartz led the nation’s No. 1 power play unit in points with 11, two more than junior Stephen Schultz.

And fellow freshman center Scott Winkler made his eighth start of the season Saturday, centering Schultz and captain Mike Testwuide.

The Tigers also had three freshmen defensemen in Saturday’s starting lineup. And Tigers freshman goalie Joe Howe has been getting the lion’s share of minutes in net, posting a record of 9-2-1.

Spreading it around
In their 10 victories, the Tigers have gotten game-winning goals from seven different players.

Kris Fredheim’s game-winner Friday night was the sixth different game-winning goal during the Tigers’ six-game winning streak.
