Jinx or honor: Broncos land on Sports Illustrated cover
Comments 0 | Recommend 0ENGLEWOOD - Call it a jinx, an honor or simply recognition for a 4-0 start, but the Denver Broncos have landed on this week's Sports Illustrated cover.
The magazine chose a picture of tight end Daniel Graham with the headline "Getting Real." The picture is of Graham hurdling a Dallas Cowboys defender Sunday during the Broncos' 17-10 victory. The cover story focuses on the defense, which has allowed 26 points in four games.
The last time the Broncos were on the SI cover was Oct. 6, 2003, when quarterback Jake Plummer was featured. The Broncos were undefeated then but lost that Sunday at Kansas City. There have been numerous instances of athletes or teams losing the week after being on the magazine's cover, which is how the legend of the "SI Cover Jinx" was born.
The Broncos' last appearance on the cover before 2003 was in 1999, the infamous "We're Finished" edition during the team's slow start to the season. This will be the 19th time the Broncos have been featured on the cover of the weekly magazine.
