Jefferson plays well in his Falcon Stadium finale
Quarterback Tim Jefferson not only played for Air Force on Saturday, he played the kind of game that has become his legacy.
Jefferson was solid in every way against UNLV. He had 81 yards rushing and a touchdown on 12 attempts – and it would have been his first 100-yard game had a 71-yard touchdown not been called back for a holding penalty. He completed 7-of-12 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.
“It was pretty solid,” Falcons coach Troy Calhoun said.
Not bad considering Jefferson wasn’t fully cleared to play until Saturday morning. He suffered a concussion last week in the first quarter against Wyoming.
Jefferson’s participation in practice progressed through the week. Calhoun said he wasn’t entirely sure Jefferson would be able to start until he was cleared the morning of the game.
“If it was up to me, there was no way I was sitting it out,” Jefferson said. “At the same time, I said that in the Wyoming game, there was no way I was going to sit out that game. But, of course, it’s not really my decision at some point.”
Jefferson said he felt fine during the Wyoming game, but had an issue keeping his balance. Jefferson said he had no symptoms during the week.
Jefferson was sharp from the start. He connected with Zack Kauth five times for 90 yards, and hit Dontae Strickland on a well-thrown 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Jefferson sat out the fourth quarter of the blowout win.
The game was Jefferson’s last at Falcon Stadium. The win was the 27th of his career, most in Falcons history and third most in Mountain West history.
“As seniors, the career we’ve had here at Falcon Stadium, for the most part it has been a good one,” Jefferson said. “This year has been a little up-and-down, but it’s always great to be able to finish it off on a high note like this.”
