No rest for AFA's Jefferson

THE GAZETTE

Air Force quarterback Tim Jefferson technically is in the midst of his three-week period of summer leave.

But instead of relaxing at home in Georgia, Jefferson is at the academy working out and taking a political science class to make sure he is academically eligible to play in the fall.

"I'm working pretty hard," Jefferson said Thursday.

Cadets' summers are split into three three-week sessions. Jefferson went through global engagement - a simulated deployment in Jack's Valley on campus - during his first period and in his third will take a computer science class.

Jefferson, who started the final eight games last year as a freshman, missed most of spring practice to concentrate on academics. But he is confident he will be on track come fall.

Jefferson will compete for the starting job with classmate Asher Clark, who started the last eight games in 2008 at tailback but was moved to quarterback (his high school position) prior to spring.

Clark is recovering well from a surgery that repaired the meniscus in his right knee. He said Thursday his straight-ahead speed has returned almost completely but that he has not been able to perform lateral movement drills.

"He's to the point here in the next seven to 10 days where he really ought to be able to cut loose, put a little more weight on it and change directions," coach Troy Calhoun said.

Etc.

Calhoun would not give a specific timetable for the return of cornerback/kick returner Reggie Rembert, who has been suspended indefinitely for an unspecified violation of academy standards, but he did say Rembert will "play a lot" in 2009.

Ted Haggard is starting new church at his Colorado Springs home.
What's your view?
Good for him. If God has called Haggard to return to ministry, he should obey.
Haggard should stay out of the ministry. He has too much baggage to lead a church.
I don't care what Haggard does, and I'm sick of hearing about him in the news.
Haggard and anyone crazy enough to attend his church deserve each other.
Haggard has a lot to offer as a pastor. Let's give him a chance.
