Falcons senior Johnson returns to old form on court
LAS VEGAS - Air Force senior guard Anwar Johnson said he felt like his old self at the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
He sure looked it.
After aggravating an injury to his right foot Jan. 14, Johnson did not practice for most of the rest of the season and often wore a protective boot between games.
But in the past week or so, Johnson's foot has improved, and he even practiced early this week. Then he scored 15 points in Wednesday's victory over Colorado State and a game-high 24 in Thursday's 80-69 loss to BYU.
Johnson went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line Thursday, giving him 125 made free throws - the most by a Falcon in a season since assistant coach Tyron Wright made 138 during the 1998-99 campaign.
Balanced again
For the second straight game - and only the second time since Dec. 28, 2008 - four Falcons scored in double figures. In addition to Johnson, senior Andrew Henke scored 18 points while senior Matt Holland and junior Grant Parker had 10 apiece.
Reynolds OK
Coach Jeff Reynolds suffered through Wednesday's postgame press conference in pain from what he believed was "a kidney stone attack." But he said "everything worked out" Wednesday night and that he felt "a lot better" Thursday.
