CC's penalty-killing streak rises to 33

POTSDAM, N.Y. • Colorado College remained perfect on the penalty kill after warding off all five Clarkson power plays in Friday's 1-1 tie.

In five games, the Tigers have killed all 33 penalties, topping last season's consecutive kills mark by two.

Nebraska-Omaha is the only other Division I team that hasn't allowed a power-play goal.

On Friday, the Tigers only allowed two power-play shots.

CC continues to search for similar consistency on offense.

Center Chad Rau and linemates Bill Sweatt and Eric Walsky have accounted for 61 percent of the team's goal-scoring. Only five of 15 CC forwards have scored this season.

"It was goaltending and penalty killing again for us," coach Scott Owens said. "It'd just be nice if we could get some other people to step up and contribute offensively."

Right wing Addison DeBoer, who earned kudos from Owens for his penalty killing, echoed Owens' frustration about the offense.

When asked if he and other scoreless forwards are preoccupied with scoring, DeBoer said: "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. You try not to think about it when you're out there. But when you're off the ice, it's hard not to think about it."

CC stays unbeaten against historic rival

The Tigers, who first faced Clarkson in the 1957 NCAA Tournament semifinal at Broadmoor Ice Palace, extended their unbeaten streak against the Golden Knights to 9-0-2. CC beat Clarkson 5-3 in that first meeting en route to claiming its last national title. CC tied Clarkson the last time it played at Cheel Arena in October 2003.

Slap shot

Left wing Scott McCulloch (groin) did not travel, but will return for the Denver series next weekend, he said.
