Area colleges: AFA men's lacrosse falls to No. 4 Notre Dame
Despite a strong defensive effort in the opening period, the Air Force men’s lacrosse team dropped a 10-4 decision to fourth-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 3-6.
Women's lacrosse
Holly McHugh posted career highs with seven goals and eight points to lead the Colorado College women’s lacrosse team to a 19-15 victory over Regis in Durango. McHugh scored five times in the first half, including four during the final 12 minutes when she ignited an 8-1 run that turned a 4-2 deficit into a 10-5 halftime lead. The Tigers improved to 9-2.
Track and field
Air Force junior Nick Frawley cleared 17 feet, 4½ inches to finish third in the pole vault at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. With his season-high clearance, Frawley earned a spot in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in May.
Women's gymnastics
Freshman Jenna Dudley and senior Abbey Rogers of Air Force wrapped up all-around competition at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. Dudley and Rogers finished 17th and 19th, respectively, in the regional meet.
Men's gymnastics
Devin Menefee tied for seventh in vaulting with an Air Force record of 15.850, and Nash Mills was eighth all-around to lead the Falcons at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Palo Alto, Calif.
Baseball
Air Force junior his five home runs as part of an 8-for-12, eight-run, 11-RBI day as the Falcons (10-19) swept a doubleheader at Utah Valley State by scored of 22-21 and 18-14. Air Force coach Mike Hutcheon reached 300 victories for his career.
Softball
Despite plenty of activity on the base paths, CC’s softball team (4-15) couldn’t crack the victory column in Conway, Ark. The Tigers stranded 16 runners in two games at Hendrix College, falling 8-0 and 2-1 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Water polo
Jaime Grasse scored three times and Lindsay Morrison finished with 11 saves, but their efforts weren’t enough for the Colorado College water polo team to salvage a victory in its last of three matches on Day 2 of the Midwest Invitational in Kenosha, Wis.
Tennis
Cody Hall was Air Force's lone winner in a 6-1 loss to visiting Montana.
Boxing
Air Force advanced three contenders to the finals of the National Collegiate Boxing Association late Friday in College Park, Md. Seniors Jesse Horton and Boyce Loomis earned victories in the semifinal round, while sophomore Matt DeMars had a bye. Horton advanced to the national title bout for the third straight year, after defeating Kentucky’s Tyler Sexton by decision in the 119-pound semifinal. Loomis earned a decision over The Citadel’s Sam Greenwood of the 185-pound division to claim his first appearance in the finals.
