GIRLS BASKETBALL
Pikes Peak No. 4 Sierra 51, No. 5 Mesa Ridge 50
At Mesa Ridge: Chucky Jeffery scored 11 of her 21 points in the second quarter to help the Stallions (6-1, 1-0 4A Metro) to an eight-point halftime lead.
The Grizzlies (4-3, 0-1) rallied in the second half but missed 2 of 3 free throws in the closing seconds.
Kaitlyn Mileto scored 20, including three 3-pointers, and Marlo Nickell added 14 for the Grizzlies.
“We went out and played valiantly and I was encouraged by our performance,” Mesa Ridge coach Eric Hulen said.
No. 7 Widefield 45, No. 10 Fountain-Fort Carson 43
At Fountain-Fort Carson: Kayla Hughes scored 12 points to lead the Gladiators (7-1, 1-0 4A Metro), who came back from a three-point deficit with two minutes remaining.
“It was back and forth the whole night,” Trojans coach Harry Knight said. “We just couldn’t finish.”
D’Shara Strange led all scorers with 18 for the Trojans (5-3, 0-1).
No. 2 Air Academy 55, Coronado 30
At Coronado: Meghan Hollenga scored 11 of her 17 points in the first quarter as the Kadets (5-0, 4-0 5A Metro) jumped out to a 29-8 lead.
Erin Freeman led the Cougars (1-7, 1-3) with eight points, all in the second half.
BOYS BASKETBALL
No. 7 Mesa Ridge 59, Sierra 56
At Sierra: Jamal Dickerson had 25 points and Emanuel Salas added 16, including 10 for 10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to lead the Grizzlies (3-3, 1-0 4A Metro).
DJ Dickson scored 21 to lead the Stallions (4-3, 0-1), who were done in by 30 turnovers.
“We’ve got to take care of the ball,” Sierra coach Steve Cook said. “Thirty turnovers and we lose by three? We shouldn’t even have been in the game.”
Manitou Springs 67, Trinidad 49
At Trinidad: Corey Sienknecht scored 28 and Malcomb Vrecenar added 10 to lead the Mustangs (3-1), who outscored Trinidad 22-8 in the third.
“Our third quarter was probably the best quarter we’ve had all year,” Mustangs coach Ken Vecchio said. “We took some steps to kind of grow up tonight.”
No. 8 Falcon 63, Cheyenne Mountain 54
At Falcon: Junior Adam Link had 22 points, including three 3-pointers, and 13 rebounds and Lewis Baumen scored 17 to lead Falcon (5-2, 1-1 4A Metro).
Logan Mueller scored 19, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Indians (1-5, 0-1).
GIRLS SWIMMING
Coronado 112, Manitou Springs 70
At Coronado: Kali Allison won the 200-meter individual medley and the 100 breaststroke and Kara Allison took first in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly to lead the Cougars, who also won the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
