CWS: LSU becoming hometown favorite
Neither Nebraska nor Creighton advanced to the College World Series.
But that doesn't mean there isn't a hometown favorite in Omaha.
LSU, which is making its 15th CWS appearance since 1986, has grown into that role.
"We've pretty much adopted them," said Omaha native Greg Pivovar, owner of Stadium View Sportscards, located across the street from Rosenblatt Stadium.
It's in large part because LSU's passionate fans travel in bunches to Omaha - there was more purple and yellow in the stadium parking lot Friday than one sees at an average Laker game - even in years when the Tigers fail to make the series.
Seen
In the parking lot, a yellow Chevrolet Tracker with LSU logos on the doors and a stuffed, purple-and-yellow-clad Tiger in the passenger seat.
And that wasn't even close to the best fan-driven car in the lot.
That ride belonged to Scott Wilson of Austin, Texas. Wilson drove to the CWS in his burnt orange 1975 Cadillac DeVille sedan that features a white vinyl top and a pair of longhorns on the hood - just like Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard.
It's Wilson's second of that exact model and color.
Tasted
Catfish on a stick. Deep fried, of course, with Louisiana hot sauce.
Results
LSU throttled Arkansas 14-5 to advance to the championship round. The Razorbacks went through a CWS record eight pitchers, who combined to give up eight extra-base hits. ... Trailing 3-2 entering the ninth inning, Texas got a pair of solo home runs - the second a walk-off shot by center fielder Connor Rowe - to defeat Arizona State 4-3 and advance to the championship round.
