Shanahan expects to hear from NFL on Marshall within a week

ENGLEWOOD - Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said he expects to hear something from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in the next week on receiver Brandon Marshall's status, after Marshall went to the league offices in New York for a meeting with the commissioner last week.

Marshall has had some legal problems, something the NFL has punished under its new conduct policy. Marshall met with Goodell for two hours. Goodell could decide to suspend Marshall if he determines there has been a pattern of poor off-field behavior.

"You're always concerned anytime the commissioner calls you in to have a meeting," Shanahan said. "It's obviously not a good sign."

Shanahan said he thought all the attention on Marshall's off-field behavior and the meeting with the commissioner should help Marshall in the future.

"Obviously it's a wake-up call," Shanahan said. "If it's not a wake-up call he won't be in the National Football League."

Shanahan said Marshall, who suffered a severe arm injury in March and started catching passes with both hands about a month ago, has done well physically in the weeks leading up to training camp and should be 100 percent when practice starts Friday.

What's your view?
Good for him. If God has called Haggard to return to ministry, he should obey.
Haggard should stay out of the ministry. He has too much baggage to lead a church.
I don't care what Haggard does, and I'm sick of hearing about him in the news.
Haggard and anyone crazy enough to attend his church deserve each other.
Haggard has a lot to offer as a pastor. Let's give him a chance.
