Serratore rips team after loss at Holy Cross
WORCESTER, MASS. • You’re not going to believe this ... but Frank Serratore has a flair for the dramatic. And, speaking about the first period Saturday night against Holy Cross, the coach proved it.
“Unless our attitude changes in a hurry, we’re going nowhere,’’ he said after the Falcons’ 4-3 Atlantic Hockey loss.
He was, eh, upset with his team’s play in the first 20 minutes, in which the Falcons (10-6-3, 8-3-2 league) — tied for first place going into the night — were dominated in faceoffs, shots hustle and general play.
Every category except the scoreboard (trailing 2-1).
“Holy Cross played 60 minutes, we played 40. We got just what we deserved,’’ Serratore said.
“It’s all about mental approach and preparation,’’ he said. “Why do we have to get punched in the mouth five times before we fight back?’’
They did in the second period, tying the game 2-2. But the Crusaders came back in the third on goals by Andrew Cox and Jay Silvia to take three of four points on the weekend.
Pine Creek’s Kyle De Laurell scored his third goal of the weekend and added an assist. Tim Kirby also had a goal and assist and George Michalke scored.
Stephen Caple finished with 23 saves for the Falcons, who were outshot 27-21.
“We’ve got a long way to go, my friend,’’ Serratore said. “A long way to go.’’
