Add center McLain to Air Force men's basketball injury list

Heading into a game against 18th-ranked BYU on Wednesday, an injury-riddled Air Force men's basketball team could be down two more players.

Starting center Mike McLain is out, coach Jeff Reynolds said Monday. He has a concussion and is out indefinitely. Forward Taylor Broekhuis has a leg injury, which he first suffered early this season and worsened after playing 21 minutes Saturday at Colorado State. Broekhuis didn’t practice Monday and is “iffy” for the BYU game.

Forward Grant Parker (pelvis) and center Sammy Schafer (concussion) have a chance to return after Air Force’s break between the BYU game and the Falcons’ Jan. 20 game against New Mexico. That won’t help against a 16-1 BYU team.

Reynolds said McLain was hit on the bridge of the nose early in the second half Saturday, but was cleared to go back in. But he showed symptoms of a concussion Sunday. Reynolds said five Falcons players have suffered concussions this season.

“These are issues, as a coach, you understand that’s part of the game and you get your younger kids ready,” Reynolds said.

For BYU, leading scorer Jimmer Fredette has mononucleosis. BYU coach Dave Rose said Fredette’s status is day-to-day, and he did not rule him out of Wednesday’s game.
