Moore says he needs a week

Knowing that all concerned parties are anticipating a decision, Colorado College hockey recruit John Moore said he hopes to choose college or junior hockey sometime in the next week or so.

Moore, a defenseman who was drafted 21st overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in Friday's NHL draft, reiterated that he has not decided what he will do this fall and will discuss it with his parents soon. The Kitchener Rangers selected Moore in the Ontario Hockey League's priority selection in May.

"I'm sitting on the fence right now, 50-50," Moore said.

Moore said he has spoken to Blue Jackets officials about his options, but they have not pressured him either way. A pair of 2007 Blue Jackets draft picks are playing college hockey at Miami of Ohio.

"They're really respectful," Moore said of the Blue Jackets' front office. "They've told me it all comes down to what you and your parents want."

Moore said he realizes Kitchener and CC are anticipating his decision, so he wants to make it in a timely manner.

"I have two great options," Moore said. "I feel like I can't go wrong either way."

Moore described his experience last week as "awesome," being able to share his draft moment with his family, which was with him in Montreal for the draft. This week, Moore got to work. He is at Columbus' developmental camp, run by Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock.

"It's a lot of fun to be at the rink every day," Moore said.

Salcido update

Anaheim extended a qualifying offer to minor-leaguer and former Colorado College player Brian Salcido, the Orange County Register reported. That gave the Ducks the right to match any offer sheets from other teams potentially extended to the impending restricted free agents beginning today.
