Streaking Murton has 7-RBI night for Sky Sox

NEWS SERVICES

One pitch from defeat, Matt Murton hit his second three-run homer in three innings and the Sky Sox thought they stole a victory Friday night in Fresno.

Then the Colorado Springs bullpen got involved.

Murton, he of the 27-game hitting streak, overcame that, too. Murton's sacrifice fly in the 11th inning gave the Sky Sox a 9-8 victory.

With two out in the ninth inning, Mike McCoy and Matt Miller singled to put the tying runs aboard for Murton, who hit a two-out, three-run homer to tie the game 5-5 in the seventh.

On a 3-2 pitch, he made it 8-7.

Scott Munter got the first two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Manager Stu Cole opted to bring in left-hander Ben Julianel to get the final out. But Ryan Rohinger doubled and pinch-hitter Brian Horwitz walked. Then pinch-hitter Jesus Guzman singled to tie it.

But the Sky Sox, who finished with 15 hits, loaded the bases on bunt singles by Jonathan Herrera and Eric Young Jr. and Matt Miller's third hit of the night. Murton followed with his seventh RBI of the game.

This time Julianel finished it, getting Horwitz to fly out after a nine-pitch at-bat.
