Pittsburgh mayor makes Tebow bet pay off

PITTSBURGH — Perhaps the final score of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ playoff loss to the Denver Broncos should read: Broncos 29, Steelers 23, Pittsburgh Promise $1,400.

That’s because Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is donating $1,400 he raised by selling his Tim Tebow jersey on eBay to the Promise. The mayor founded the scholarship program which provides college tuition assistance to graduates of Pittsburgh Public Schools who maintain certain minimum grade-point averages.

Ravenstahl wore the jersey last week while striking a prayerful, one-kneed pose — known as “Tebowing” — made popular by the Broncos quarterback. Ravenstahl “Tebowed” in front of news photographers to settle a bet with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.

Ravenstahl signed the jersey, which the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Wednesday sold to a bidder identified only as “scottgunn” of Midland, Texas.
