Air Force powers past Alabama-Huntsville in hockey
Air Force shot less Saturday and scored more.
The Falcons took advantage of Alabama-Huntsville penalties to score four power-play goals in a 7-2 victory.
After shooting 56 times in a 1-1 tie on Friday, Air Force (3-2-1) got off 35 shots. Only this time, they got some through on Clarke Saunders. They were 4-for-5 on the power play and scored two goals each in the first and third periods and three goals in the second.
“We were good tonight,” coach Frank Serratore said. “They got the first goal, but I was proud of our guys and the way they came back. It was great to see our team respond. I don’t remember scoring that many pretty goals in a game.''
Stephen Caple had 28 saves in goal for the Falcons to keep the Chargers (0-7-1) winless.
Pine Creek graduate Kyle De Laurell, had two goals, one on the power play, and an assist for the Falcons. Cole Gunner scored his second power-play goal of the weekend and had two assists. Chad Demers and Alex Halloran added power-play tallies and Stephen Carew and Casey Kleisinger each had a goal and assist.
Alabama-Huntsville scored the game's first goal, by Craig Pierce midway through the first period.
