BOYS BASKETBALL
Falcon 76, CaƱon City 45
At Falcon: Gabriel Jackson scored 19 points and John Kienast added 14, including four 3-pointers, for the Falcons (6-2).
Jackson also had 14 rebounds, six assists and six steals for Falcon.
“It was a great game to end on before the break,” Falcon coach Roy Vieux said. “We pushed the ball down the court well tonight.”
Denver Christian 50, Harrison 45
At Harrison Classic: The Panthers fell short in their comeback attempt although they outscored Denver Christian 20-13 in the fourth quarter.
Harrison (0-7) jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter but scored only 10 points in the next two quarters.
Harrison High School will rename its gymnasium in honor of former coach Butch Thorpe at a ceremony at 8:30 p.m. today.
Grandview 80, ECA 37
At Harrison Classic: Josh Mann, Elliott Rice and Chris Dillavou combined to go 10 for 10 from the field, including 3 for 3 on 3-pointers, but the Eagles were blown out by Grandview (5-3).
Mann led Evangelical Christian Academy (1-4) with 15 points. Grandview had three players score in double figures.
Mullen 69, Coronado 61
At Mullen: The Cougars fell short despite 15 points from Ryan Schmidt, who made all three of his 3-point attempts.
Mullen made all 11 of its 3-point attempts, which made it hard for Coronado (3-4) to keep pace.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Rampart 47, Mitchell 39
At Rampart: Alexa Ward came off the bench to score 10 points for the Rams (5-1). Center Nicole Kinzer led the team with 14 points and point guard Jacque Hendrickson added 10.
“It was an overall good team effort,” Rams coach Mark Englebretson said. “Our defense was the key to the victory tonight.”
Kristyn Franks scored 15 points and Bri Johnson added 11 for Mitchell (2-4).
Kiowa 43, Pikes Peak Christian 38
At Kiowa: Without injured shot-blocking center Cassidy Austin, the Eagles were unable to stop Kiowa in the paint.
Taylor Castillo scored 20 points to lead Kiowa.
“She dominated inside the paint,” Pikes Peak Christian coach Venita Ames said. “They gave her the ball whenever they needed a score.”
HOCKEY
Mullen 5, Coronado 1
At Sertich: Coronado scored a goal in the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Mullen scored on the power play early in the third period and added two late goals to keep the Cougars from mounting a comeback.
