Texas-Pan American at Air Force: Three things to watch

THE GAZETTE

1. AIR FORCE'S SHOOTING

In the past three games, the Falcons have made 69 of 129 shots (53.5 percent) from the floor, including 26 of 49 3-point attempts (53.1 percent). Those games were played in a seven-day span. When Air Force takes the court this afternoon, it will have had six days off. Will players still have their rhythm? "It was good to have a week to practice, but I worry about having a week off and being stale," coach Jeff Reynolds said.

2. TEXAS-PAN AM F EMMANUEL JONES

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound senior leads the Broncs in scoring (17.8), rebounding (8.8) and blocks (8). He has scored 27 points twice and, in Sunday's victory over North Carolina Central, he had 18 points and 16 rebounds.

3. CAN THE FALCONS LIMIT SECOND CHANCES?

Air Force's first eight opponents averaged 14 offensive rebounds, and the past two each scored 14 second-chance points. Texas-Pan Am is averaging 10.9 offensive rebounds. In last Sunday's victory over North Carolina Central, the Broncos grabbed 14 offensive boards, leading to 14 second-chance points.

Quote to note: "I definitely think we're on the right track. I think the win on the road last weekend was a big step for us. It just seems like we've got a lot of confidence and momentum and we're practicing well and working on things we need to work on. I think we're setting ourselves up to keep building this momentum for the conference season." - Air Force G/F Andrew Henke

Notes to quote: Texas-Pan Am has played eight straight games away from home. The Broncs are 2-3 in their past five games, but two of those losses (Western Illinois and Drake) came by two points. Texas-Pan Am led Drake by six with 21/2 minutes left before allowing eight unanswered points. ... Air Force leads the Mountain West Conference in 3-point shooting percentage (45.4 percent). New Mexico is second at 39.1 percent.
