Avs trade for former CC standout Preissing
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Colorado Avalanche acquired former Colorado College standout Tom Preissing on Friday as part of a trade that sent forward Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings.
Preissing, 30, and fellow defenseman Kyle Quincey went to the Avs, as well as a draft pick in 2010, for Smyth, who had 59 points in 77 games for the Avs last season.
"We are pleased to be adding two quality NHL defensemen," said Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman. "Kyle and Tom are both versatile players who can contribute at both ends. They will add defensive depth to our lineup."
Preissing, who had three goals and four assists in 22 games for the Kings last season, has 31 goals and 100 assists in 322 NHL games with San Jose, Ottawa and Los Angeles.
Preissing, a former CC captain, was an All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist in 2002-03, his senior season, when he scored 23 goals and had 52 points.
Quincey, 23, led Kings defensemen in scoring last season with 38 points (four goals, 34 assists) in 72 games. Quincey was claimed off waivers from Detroit on Oct. 13.
