Falcons fortunate to salvage a tie
WORCESTER, MASS. • Was Frank Serratore bragging or complaining?
You really couldn’t tell after Air Force’s 3-3 overtime tie at Holy Cross in Atlantic Hockey on Friday night.
“We stole it,’’ he said. “We got a point that I don’t think we deserved.’’
Pine Creek’s Kyle De Laurell scored twice, Tim Kirby had a goal and assist and Scott Mathis added two assists for the Falcons, who led 3-2 after two periods.
But the Falcons (10-5-3, 8-2-2 Atlantic Hockey) were fortunate to get the tie. Mike McNamara scored early in the third period to tie the game. And the Crusaders had a 7-2 edge in overtime shots.
“This Holy Cross team is tough. We cracked several times,” Serratore said. “Steve Caple (32 saves) was good, and he was lucky. And he had to be good and lucky.
“There were times when we were very good. There were times we were sloppy with the puck.’’
Holy Cross, which finished with a 35-25 edge in shots, scored the first two goals, tallies by Brandon Nunn and Luke Miller.
“We’ve got to get better,’’ Serratore said. “I don’t want to pick on Holy Cross’ skill level, but our skill level is better. But Holy Cross’ heart was bigger.’’
