Sky Sox win behind strong pitching
The Sky Sox continued their winning ways Thursday as they beat the Sacramento River Cats 5-2.
Alan Johnson improved to 9-6, giving up two runs on eight hits in 62/3 innings. Mike Paulk hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning off of Sacramento starter Kyle Middleton, his fourth homer of the season.
Travis Metcalf added on a double as the Sky Sox connected for eight hits.
Relievers Edgmer Escalona and Scott Rice pitched 21/3 hitless innings, stifling the River Cats comeback.
In his first game with the Sky Sox, second baseman Joseph Scott went 1-for-3 and connected with Kaz Matsui and first baseman Paulk for the only Sky Sox double play of the game.
