Smith falters again, Sox fall

It took only five hits, but Greg Smith came up short again for the Sky Sox, as they lost 5-1 to the River Cats in Sacramento.

Smith (1-5) went  just four innings, giving up four runs on three hits, including a three-run home run to River Cats’ catcher Josh Donaldson.

River Cats’ centerfielder Michael Taylor went 2-for-2 with a double, and provided much of the offense. Sky Sox center fielder Eric Young, Jr. did his part, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI.

Designated hitter Mike Paulk continued his hot streak, tacking on another double for the Sky Sox.

Relievers Kendrick Birkins, Matt Wilhite, and Juan Rincon worked four innings from the bullpen, combining for two hits and one run while walking two and striking out four.

The Sky Sox are 12 games behind Tacoma in the Pacific Coast League
